According to police, a speeding car caused a Virginia Beach car crash that killed a 12-year-old boy.
The incident was initially reported at approximately 5:46 on Friday, October 11, 2013, as dispatchers received calls regarding a car crash. The call was about an accident near the intersection of First Colonial Road and Paramore Drive.
There were three people in the car at the time of the accident, according to Tonya Borman with the Virginia Beach Police Department. One passenger in the vehicle was a 12-year-old boy. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he eventually died from his injuries.
The boy was later identified as Michael Chao Fang of Virginia Beach.
Another passenger in the vehicle was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that were reported as being not life-threatening.
Investigations into the accident have shown that the vehicle was headed south on First Colonial Road. The vehicle lost control as it went through a curve. After losing control, the vehicle hit a tree in the median and continued into north bound lanes. The vehicle finally came to rest after hitting another tree.
Investigators say that the main factor for the Virginia car crash was due to the excessive speed of the vehicle in relation to the road conditions.
Both directions of First Colonial Road were shut down at Mill Dam Road while the scene of the accident was investigated.
