Mr. Tavss was born in Norfolk, Virginia on September 27, 1939. He was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1964 and to the United States Supreme Court in 1971. He received his Bachelor of Finance from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School in 1961 and his Law Degree from Washington and Lee University in 1964 where he was associate Editor for the Washington and Lee Law Review from 1963-1964.
He is a member of the Norfolk - Portsmouth, American, and Virginia State Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Associations of The American Trial Lawyers, the Virginia Trial Lawyers, and the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar Association. Mr. Tavss is a past president of the Tidewater Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Tavss has extensive experience in personal injury, medical malpractice, corporate and banking law, and represents many heavy hauling companies throughout Virginia.
He is married and has two children and five grandchildren.
