A homicide is being investigated by the Norfolk Police after they say a man was shot and killed on Wednesday night, October 16.

According to the police, the shooting took place on Beacon Hill Circle and Halter Lane in Poplar Halls at approximately 8:00 p.m.

The man killed in the incident has been identified as Jontaz Tarell Moore, 21, of Chesapeake. When police found Moore, he was greatly injured from a gunshot wound.

Officers reported that Moore was awake and alert upon their arrival at the scene. Rescue workers arrived at the Norfolk robbery scene shortly after and rushed Moore to a local hospital for treatment. According to the police, Moore died early Thursday as a result of his injuries.

According to the police, the shooting took place during a Norfolk robbery attempt.

Nearby neighbors say that they heard a couple gunshots. After the gunshots they saw a man run down Beacon Hill. Another man was seen sitting in the street screaming that he had been shot.

Victor Roberts, a local neighbor of 30 years, said that the area where the incident took place has recently become a problem. The area has no street light and is a vacant lot.

“Every time there’s a shooting, it’s one time too many and it makes you very, very uncomfortable. It makes you feel bad that you haven’t spent more time trying to get a light for that post,” Roberts said.

The police have identified the shooter as 20-year-old Jalil J. Sharpe as a suspect in the shooting. A warrant has been issued for robbery, malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The legal team at Tavss Fletcher is saddened by the display of violence and subsequent death of Moore.
