Speed played a role in an accident that occurred on Tuesday. The accident led to the death of a woman as her vehicle went into a ditch and collided with a utility pole, according to the authorities.
The deceased driver was identified as Jaime Lyn Weatherley, 30, of Richlands. She was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus when the accident occurred.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident took place as Weatherley was traveling east on Ben Williams Road when she crashed her Taurus near Davis Road in Richlands. The accident happened at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday.
“She crossed the center line on a curve, over corrected, then ran off the road to the right,” said Sgt. R.E. Dudley of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Dudley went on to say that Weatherley’s vehicle then struck a ditch, a utility box, and a utility pole. Both of her front airbags deployed in the accident. It was determined that she was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
“Speed was a factor in the collision,” Dudley said Tuesday afternoon.
Weatherley was pronounced dead at the scene of the North Carolina car accident.
According to officials, Weatherley was the only vehicle involved in the accident. She had no passengers with her in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
