Man Loses Life in Car Accident in Virginia Beach

car accident in Virginia Beach involving a single vehicle claimed the life of a man and left another person injured after the car struck a pole. The fatal collision took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, near Haygood Road and Wesleyan Drive.

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, the driver of a 1999 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Haygood Road near Bayside High School when he lost control of the car while turning onto Wesleyan Road. That is when the vehicle struck a light pole on the driver’s side.

The driver has been identified as Jonathan D. Mcabee, 32, of Norfolk. Rescue crews transported Mr. Mcabee to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained in the crash. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Mr. Mcabee’s passenger was also taken to the hospital where the victim was treated for serious injuries. The passenger’s identity and condition was not immediately made known.

The early-morning, fatal Virginia Beach car accident remains under investigation as authorities determine what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Police indicate that speed and alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
