More than a year ago, 39-year-old David Clark was killed when the motorcycle he was driving struck a car that turned from a parking lot onto the road in front of him.
Investigators reported that Clark was traveling at the speed limit, 35 mph, when the driver of a Nissan Altima made a quick left turn in front of him. Without time to stop, the motorcyclist hit the door on the car's driver side and was thrown across the road.
Clark suffered severe blunt trauma injuries, according to reports, and he died a month later in the hospital when he was removed from life support.
Alcohol May Have Played a Role in the Deadly Accident
The driver of the car, 54-year-old John Colonnese of Lexington, N.C., said he had been waiting at the bar inside a Chili’s restaurant for a carryout order. According to one report, Colonnese said he’d had one and one-half beers while waiting but claimed the accident was not caused by the alcohol. He said a traffic light in the distance had distracted him.
Colonnese has been charged with negligent homicide and was scheduled to appear before the state Superior Court on July 20, but his court appearance was subsequently rescheduled for Aug. 6.
