As a father and three children walked to the bus stop recently, they had no idea that a drunk driver was about to plow into them. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened.

Sandra L. Hofstadler was driving a pickup truck when she swerved around a bus that was picking up school children in Virginia Beach, jumped a curb, and hit the four. When she got out of her car, witnesses report that she was having a hard time walking, and they immediately took her keys for fear that she would try and drive away.

Another witness rushed to the aid of a young boy, giving him CPR until the paramedics arrived on the scene. Police issued a field sobriety test and arrested Hofstadler for driving while intoxicated. The woman was also charged with reckless passing of a school bus and three counts of maiming as a result of driving while intoxicated.

Two of the three children were seriously injured, one initially listed in critical condition, another in serious condition.

For many, what is infuriating about this accident is that the driver had been convicted of many other traffic offenses to include driving while intoxicated and driving on a revoked license.
