When their son was killed in an accident with a semi-truck Mr. and Mrs. Owings were devastated. Out of this devastation came the desire to find a way to prevent trucking accidents; a leading cause of highway injuries and deaths. After thinking about how they could make a difference they founded Road Safe America.
Since its inception the non-profit has worked toward one goal- Making highways safer. In order to do this Road Safe America has worked to limit the maximum size and speed of trucks, encouraged the use of Electronic On Board Records and asked that the trucking industry work to improve the amount of rest and pay their truckers receive.
