Truck and Armored Vehicle Collide into Building in Norfolk

Posted on Aug 25, 2013

According to city police and fire spokesmen, a tractor-trailer and an armored car both smashed into a building after colliding with each other on Friday morning.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue Captain Mike Hicks stated that the accident took place at approximately 10:00 a.m. in the 6200 block of Tidewater Drive.

The unusual accident took place as the tractor-trailer was attempting to make a right turn into a business. As he attempted to make the turn, the truck swung wide in order to make it in the driveway.

The armored vehicle was on the right side of the truck, in the truck’s blind spot. The truck did not see the armored vehicle and hit it as it was turning. The Norfolk truck collision caused both the vehicles to steer off the road and into a local business. The business that was smashed into was Carroll Trucking.

The building that was struck in the accident only sustained minor damage. The only visible damage was a small window that was taken out.

According to Hicks, the driver of the tractor-trailer was issued a summons for making an improper right-hand turn.

The accident caused the closure of the northbound lanes of Tidewater Driver. The lanes remained closed for several hours as officials cleaned up a diesel-fuel spill that resulted from the accident, Hicks said.

The accident caused minor injuries. The driver of the armored vehicle and one passenger in the armored vehicle were both taken to a local hospital. The two injuries were the only reported in the accidents, according to Hicks.

We wish the injured quick and full recoveries.
