A portion of Centerville Turnpike was closed due to a Virginia Beach truck accident involving a delivery truck and a pickup. The incident took place at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013.

According to Jimmy Barnes, with the Virginia Beach Police Department, a delivery truck and a pickup truck collided in the 1600 block of Centerville Turnpike. The force of the impact caused the pickup truck to land on its side and possibly left the driver pinned inside. The exact cause of the accident is unknown.

The owner and/or operator of the delivery truck were not immediately identified.

It was unclear if anyone was seriously injured in the accident. The identities and conditions of both drivers were not immediately made known by officials.

Morning commuters were inconvenienced for several hours as crews closed Centerville Turnpike in both directions to clear the accident scene. Motorists were turned around at Jake Sears Road.

The two-vehicle Virginia Beach truck accident remains under investigation by local authorities. The cause of the accident and the person who may have been responsible for it was not immediately made available.

Fortunately, this truck accident was not as serious as it could have been. We wish both drivers a quick and full recovery.
