Police Arrest More Than 40 People on Various Charges in Newport, Va

The 4th of July weekend was a wild one for revelers in Newport, Va. Newport Police arrested more than 40 people over the weekend, many of the arrests occurring in the early morning hours of the 4th. Examples of the arrests made include:
- Felony Drug Possession- Police responded to an unruly house party on Park Holm. When officers arrived they smelled marijuana and eventually found two bags of pot, plastic bags and a scale. The owner of the house was arrested on charges of felony drug distribution, possession of marijuana and an active warrant.
- Alcohol Arrests- At least 12 people were arrested and charged with crimes such as possession of alcohol and possession of alcohol by a minor.
- Assault Arrest- A father from Newport was arrested for allegedly assaulting his son. When police arrived the young man had a cut on his eye. His sister confirmed that their father had hit him.
- Disorderly Conduct- Arrests were made concerning both domestic and public disorderly conduct. In one case, police responded to a fight at Waites Warf. When they arrived the fight was in progress. One man, of Newport, Va., refused to follow police direction and was arrested.
- Noise Violation- Several noise violations were issued over the holiday weekend. Most of the calls involved party goers in the early morning hours of the 4th.
