Due to a tragic Currituck car accident, a 19-year-old man is dead and two women were injured in a head-on collision that took place on U.S. 158 on Sunday morning.

The accident took place as Casey Michael Rodriguez was driving in a 1991 Buick Regal in a northbound lane on U.S. 158. It happened at approximately 7 a.m. in the Jarvisburg area.

A 2011 BMW X5 was struck head-on by the Regal after it crossed over the center line. The head-on accident killed Rodriguez, according to authorities.

Rodriguez had one passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The 19-year-old woman who was with Rodriquez was also injured in the accident. She was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to be treated. Her injuries have been reported as non-life-threatening.

The woman driving the BMW suffered injuries in the accident. Emergency responders transported the 31-year-old woman to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City. She was treated for her injuries and released shortly after. Officials have not yet released this driver’s name.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 158 were closed so that the local troopers could investigate the crash. After being closed for a short time it was reopened.

It has not yet been determined whether alcohol or speed played a role in this accident. The accident is currently under investigation.

At Tavss Fletcher, we would like to take a moment to send our thought and condolences to the family and loved ones of Casey Michael Rodriguez.
