Newport News Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of Firefighter

A firefighter lost his life in a Newport News motorcycle accident after his bike collided with a tractor-trailer. The fatal incident took place at approximately 6:15 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013, near Warwick Avenue and Enterprise Boulevard.

 

According to reports, a motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Warwick Avenue when his Honda motorcycle clipped the rear of a truck. The incident occurred while the biker was attempting to turn left onto Enterprise Boulevard. The motorcyclist had been identified as 25-year-old Robert Francis Miner III.

 

Rescue crews transported Mr. Miner to a local hospital where he was treated for life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead a short time later. Mr. Miner has been identified as a New Hyde Park volunteer firefighter.

 

Mr. Miner reportedly grew up in the New Hyde Park area and attended New Hyde Park Road School and New Hyde Park Memorial High School.

 

The identity of the truck driver was not immediately made known. No other injuries were reported.

 

The fatal, early-morning Newport News motorcycle accident remains under investigation by local authorities as they determine how the accident occurred and who may have been at fault.
