Large Truck Accidents in Virginia- How to Steer Clear

Though some accidents are impossible to avoid, too many times our attorneys see people who know they could have done more to avoid being involved in a crash.  In Virginia, we see many accidents that involve large semi-trucks.  These accidents often cause serious injuries, even deaths.  The size and speed of these trucks, along with careless or dangerous driving, injures and kills thousands each year.  What we have to ask ourselves is this:

Is there anything drivers can do to avoid an accident with a tractor trailer?

We believe that there is.  As a driver, you must remain alert to the moves that cars and trucks are making around you.  Before you pass a truck, observe its behavior.  If the driver seems to be swerving, either onto the shoulder or over the center line, do not pass the truck.  The driver might suddenly over correct, leaving you without the time or space to avoid an accident.  If possible, avoid trucking routes.  Large trucks are only allowed to travel on certain roads.  If there is an alternate route that you could take to avoid roads congested with semi-trucks, take it.

Keep your eyes on the road.

Avoiding distractions in your car can help you avoid accidents with trucks and cars alike.  Please put down the phone and concentrate on the road ahead.  If, despite your best efforts, you are involved in an accident, do not hesitate to contact an experienced Norfolk accident attorney at Tavss Fletcher.  As always, the initial consultation is free and the advice: priceless.  You do not have to go it alone.  Call today.  757.625.1214s
