According to her attorney, Darcy M. Mahler, a 59-year-old teacher from Virginia Beach, did not know that the package she accepted at her home contained illegal drugs. Shortly after the package was delivered, police arrested Mahler and two young adults who were in her home. The veteran teacher has been charged with conspiracy, transporting a controlled substance and selling marijuana.
However, as criminal defense attorneys we have to wonder if Mahler knew what she was doing when she accepted the package. What we know is that if this case it taken to trial the prosecution, without a doubt, will weave their own story as to her knowledge of the drugs and her intentions. Without an experienced attorney, one with a reputation as a fierce defender of the wrongly accused, an innocent woman can easily be convicted of a crime she didn't commit. Even if found not guilty, the investigation into her life and her arrest could easily ruin her career.
We have seen too many people wrongfully accused of a crime they did not commit. We have built our practice around helping those accused of a crime get the representation they deserve. If you have been arrested you need serious, aggressive representation.
