Are you doing enough to protect your estate?

Do you think you are doing enough to protect your estate?  While many people have done some basic estate planning – perhaps they’ve drawn up a will or set up a trust – their plans may not be complete or may be out of date.

It is important to not only set up a complete estate plan to protect your assets and ensure your beneficiaries are provided for, but to also update it regularly.  Different life events – birth, marriage, divorce, death – can affect your wills, trusts, and other documents.

Here are some estate planning issues to consider:

  • Do you have a will?  If so, when was the last time it was updated?
  • Could you benefit from a living trust?
  • Do you know the difference between a revocable and an irrevocable living trust?
  • Have you selected a trustworthy executor?
  • Are you prepared for what will happen in the probate process?
  • Is your beneficiary list up to date?
  • Is a prenuptial agreement right for you?

If you aren’t sure about some of the above questions, maybe it is time to talk to an estate planning attorney.  The lawyers at Tavss Fletcher can help you with specific concerns or they can review your overall estate plan and help you make it better.
